As of March 2021, the electricity generation of conventional hydropower plants that used regulated reservoirs amounted to over 45 million megawatt hours. With this method, water is stored in a pond when the demand for power is low during the night or on weekends. While generating electricity from the flowing water, the amount of water is adjusted accordingly to the power demand.
