Key figures on retail gambling in Italy 2017-2022
After being hit hard by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the retail gambling industry in Italy partially recovered in 2022. The gross gaming revenue (GGR), for instance, rose by 40.2 percent over the previous year, totaling nearly 16.5 billion euros. Despite a sharp annual increase, GGR, total win amount, and the amount wagered in the retail segment remained below pre-pandemic levels. On the other hand, the amount wagered, the total win amount, and GGR in the online gambling market in Italy peaked in 2022.
