Over 80 percent of Russians believed their country needed to possess nuclear weapons, according to a survey from September 2021. The largest share of people holding that opinion was among the elderly population aged 60 years and older. In the age group from 18 to 24 years, this share was the lowest, at approximately 70 percent.
