Adidas and Decathlon, leaders in Spanish sports retail
Sporting goods retail may be flourishing, but some of the leading companies and brands in the industry are originally from other countries. In Spain, two companies stand out: the French company Decathlon and the German company Adidas. Adidas is the leading brand of sports fashion and the sales of the Adidas subsidiary in Spain exceeded 600 million euros in 2023, almost double the value generated in 2020. Meanwhile, Decathlon's Spanish subsidiary had a sales value of more than 1.85 billion euros, likewise a noticeable jump compred to previous years.Trending sports in Spain
The sporting goods demand in Spain is driven by activities, such as running and cycling. As of September 2024, just over a third of surveyed Spanish individuals said they went running or jogging at least occassionally, making it one of the most popular sports activities within the country. That said, hiking was king that year, with nearly half of respondents saying they partake in it from time to time.According to the same 2024 survey, Spanish people also took an interest in a vast array of other sports, from obvious answers such as soccer to sports that are gaining popularity like American football.
