There was an increase in the number of people using online payment methods for food delivery. The most popular time when people chose to order food with home delivery was between 6 and 7 in the evening. The success of apps for ordering meals with delivery to the customer's designated location has also led to the development of online stores offering groceries and beverages. Polish people in such stores were most likely to order coffee and tea, as well as ready meals and snacks.Regarding demographics, 45 percent of Polish online food delivery enthusiasts were between 18 and 34 years old. For nearly every second person, ordering food for delivery was most common when spending time with their partner. Poles seem to associate food delivery with time well spent with their loved ones and choose it as a time saver.
Costs of takeaway food
The price of the average online food order increased with the rate of inflation. The highest price for ordered food was recorded in Łódź. In 2023, the average price for a Margherita pizza was 46.41 zloty. A similar situation applied to orders of a standard burger. In the capital city of Lodz voivodship, the average price for this dish was over 34 zloty. The largest market share in terms of food delivery services was held by Pyszne.pl, which accounted for almost 40 percent compared to other platforms.The ability to order food online is attracting more foodies in Poland every year. This is evident not only in the growing number of places and apps offering such an option but also in the number of users, which is growing every year. The number of people using online food delivery is expected to exceed 19.4 million in 2028.
