Mobile gaming in France - Statistics & Facts
In 2020, more than half of the French population declared themselves gamers. Mobile video game users have a very varied profile, both in terms of gender and age. Female players were slightly more likely than male players to play mobile games via apps, while players of all ages reported enjoying playing mobile games.
In just a few years, the market value of the gaming sector saw an impressive increase in France. Indeed, French gamers are fond of casual games, which remain a favorite to this day. These games are intended for casual gamers who want to spend only a short time on them, for example while commuting. This type of game therefore lends itself well to mobile devices, especially smartphones, which are the devices most used by French gamers to play, ahead of computers and consoles.
Many French publishers have been able to take advantage of this promising market and have developed numerous games available for download. Voodoo and Gameloft have succeeded in establishing themselves on the Android market and have the highest number of downloads, while Magma Mobile offers a total of 151 games. The game Among Us! took the gaming community by storm in the summer of 2020 and attracted the attention of many players, making it one of the most downloaded applications on iPad, and its first gaming application. The mobile strategy video game Clash of Clans topped the list of daily active users both on iPhones and Google Play.
Although still in its infancy, the video game industry has established itself as the world's leading cultural industry, ahead of cinema and literature. Studios have been working hard to meet the demands of gamers and to offer innovations made possible by this still new medium. The limitless possibilities offered by cloud gaming, for example, are a dream come true for audiences and quite possibly the start of a new era.
