Mattress Retail in the U.S. - Statistics & Facts
Where do consumers in the United States prefer to shop for a new mattress? Recent survey data points to specialized mattress stores as the most popular place to purchase a new mattress. Perhaps this is unsurprising when one considers the ubiquity of radio and television advertisements for mattress stores all across America, with each store promoting multiple blowout sales per year with special deals on top mattress brands.
Most consumers in the United States have also been open-minded about purchasing their new mattress online and having it delivered to their home, however only 38 percent of mattress retailers sell online. Of these, Casper, Purple, and Tuft & Needle are among the leading brands.
There have been many innovations in the mattress industry, such as latex, cold foam, and memory foam mattresses, however, the classic and affordable spring mattress is still the most popular. A 2016 survey found that U.S. consumers consider the comfort and support of the mattress to be the most important factor when shopping for a mattress, followed by free delivery and non-pushy salespeople in the store.
