In the same year, the number of Georgia Power employees decreased for the fourth year in a row to some 6,900. Having sold 85.49 terawatt hours of electricity, Georgia Power was ranked second among the leading U.S. electric utilities by electricity sales.
In light of the financial pressure the coronavirus pandemic has put on households, Georgia Power has opened an installment payment plan until March 2021. It serves over two million residential customers and nearly 320,000 businesses. Georgia Power is among the leading U.S. utilities based on retail sales, having generated 7.75 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. The utility company actively supports the research and development of solar energy among other renewable sources and announced that it will continue to increase their renewable energy portfolio.
