The U.S. yogurt market has experienced a steady growth since 2017. Yogurt sales revenue came to over eight billion U.S. dollars in 2023. The price of yogurt has been also increasing over the last years. Despite the rising prices, Americans are consuming yogurt more than ever. Average annual consumption of yogurt in the U.S. went up by over nine percent between 2000 and 2023.

The U.S. yogurt category is highly competitive and has seen many product introductions and innovations during recent years. Greek yogurt, in particular, created a lot of new excitement and activity within the yogurt segment. Greek yogurt saw tremendous growth in sales over the past ten years. One of the most well-known brands in the United States is Chobani. As of 2024, the American company Chobani held a revenue of 778.6 million U.S. dollars in the United States. Finding the right approach to American consumers and their rising demand for low fat high protein yogurt, resulted in the company’s positive sales growth in the last five years.Dairy yogurt is dominating the market
More than half of the U.S. population are regular consumers of yogurts or smoothie products. Of these yogurt products, most American consumers tend to consume regular dairy yogurt, as opposed to low-fat or sugar-free. Most recently, plant-based yogurt has also been introduced as an alternative to classic dairy yogurt. The plant-based yogurt market in the U.S. is forecast to reach the revenue of over half a billion U.S. dollars by 2029. Despite this estimated revenue growth, the yogurt substitute segment is less popular than plant-based milk products. As of 2023, the yogurt market was dominated by dairy segment holding over 96 percent of the sales share. This dominance seems likely to continue in the future considering the rising domestic yogurt consumption in the U.S.
