U.S. Processed Meats Industry - Statistics & Facts
Processed meats comprise subcategories such as processed lunch meat, bacon, dinner sausages, frankfurters, packaged meals, hams and processed turkey. Processed turkey is a very popular lunch meat among Americans. In 2015, it was reported that turkey made up 31.8 percent of U.S. processed lunch meat sales. In the same year, bacon was ranked second within the processed meat category with weekly sales amounting to 3,402 U.S. dollars per store.
When it comes to consumer brand preference, the share of consumers who prefer a national brand reached some 40 percent in 2016, according to a recent survey. The same survey found that some 18 percent of processed meat consumers in the U.S. favored private labels in 2016.
