The uncontested omnichannel leader in France
With more than 95 billion euros in annual revenues in Europe in 2024, E.Leclerc is an industry behemoth whose history dates back to 1948. E.Leclerc Group consistently came out on top of supermarket competition in France, despite fierce competition from other industry heavyweights such as Carrefour Group, Auchan Group, and German discounters Lidl and Aldi. While the gap in market share between E.Leclerc and Carrefour was around 2.4 percentage points in January 2021, E.Leclerc managed to widen the gap with its biggest rival on the home front to 4.3 percentage points by October 2023. The market leader in that category? You guessed it, E.Leclerc again. In 2024, E.Leclerc Drive was the leading drive-thru grocery retailer in France, with approximately 5.5 billion euros in revenues. Its main competitors, including Carrefour Drive and Le Drive Intermarché, trailed behind with around 1.6 billion euros and 1.5 billion in revenues, respectively. That year, E.Leclerc Drive controlled nearly half of the drive-thru grocery market in France, outshining other established retailers in the industry.E.Leclerc’s impressive omnichannel success could be attributed to the fact it is a long-established retailer in the grocery market, but it is also due to a winning value proposition which has resonated with the French consumer. In 2024, E.Leclerc had the highest rate of customer retention among online grocery retailers in France, as well as an impeccable, zero-percent price divergence in store versus online as of 2023.
