plummeting profits for the fifth year in a row. In 2023, the group also had to deal with a 25 percent
drop in its earnings. The company cited worldwide macroeconomic challenges and clients’ reluctance to take on substantial marketing projects as a reason behind the falling numbers. The
price of S4 Capital’s shares also decreased significantly from March 2023 to February 2024, going from 162.6 to 40.08 British pounds.
Operations play out under one roof
Unlike traditional ad conglomerates, S4 Capital works as a unified organism, with all its digital advertising and marketing services operations carried out within an integrated framework, that of Media.Monks. The Americas contributed the
largest share of the company’s global revenue, followed by Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). In 2022, the company employed more than eight thousand people in 32 countries, 47.6 percent
identifying as women. In late 2023 S4 Capital was reportedly eyed by U.S. marketing group Stagwell as a potential acquisition target, but Sorrell allegedly rejected the advances because they undervalued the company.
Making moves in ESG and AI
Over the past few years, S4 Capital has invested an increasing number of resources in its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) work. In 2022, the
company’s net revenue from sustainable projects, defined as "For Good" projects, grew by more than 80 percent to 43.4 million pounds. To put this into perspective, S4 Capital’s global revenue that year amounted to 1.07 billion pounds.
