While the level of trust towards news and domestic media in Finland is around 76 percent, over half of Finns use the internet as their main source of news. Only five percent use print media as the main news source. The ongoing digitalization also reflects in the declining number of newspapers in Finland. In terms of magazines, consumer magazines are the most-read publications. As of 2023, the most popular magazine in Finland was the S-Group's customer magazine Yhteishyvä with roughly 2.1 million readers on average.Advertising spending on print media
Print media advertising expenditure has declined since 2021, although advertising spending has generally increased. While over 50 percent of total media advertising expenditure in Finland was spent on online media in 2023, only 12 percent was spent on print newspapers. Traditional media saw the largest decline in advertising spending in 2023 compared with 2022. Newspaper advertising dropped by 12.9 percent, and magazine advertising followed with a decrease of 14 percent.Digitalization continues to transform all traditional media, leading to a shift from traditional print media to online issues of newspapers, magazines, and e-books. However, print media still play an important role in everyday life and the Finnish culture.
