Popularity of foreign animations in South Korea

Kimetsu no Yaiba,” “Detective Conan,” and “Crayon Shin-chan” have continuously ranked among the
most popular animations watched by Koreans across various devices and viewing methods. American animated films such as “Frozen” and “Aladdin” are among the
highest-grossing foreign films of all time in the country.
Watching animations in the digital age
In a 2022 survey, around 51 percent of respondents stated that they preferred to
watch animations on smart devices such as smartphones, while a further 43 percent used TV monitors. Even then, the use of over-the-top (OTT) services was the
most popular method of watching animations on TV. Watching animations in movie theaters meanwhile, is a less frequent occurrence. Even young children only took an average of 1.3
cinema visits to watch animations within the last year.
