For over two decades, Google stood as an unrivaled online titan, providing access to a wealth of knowledge with just a few keystrokes. The California-based multinational is the global leader in the online search market, offering digital products and services for online advertising, cloud computing, and software. However, the corporation is currently facing the most significant challenges in its operations as it attempts to adapt to the emerging trends in artificial intelligence (AI) in online search. This shift is transforming the online search industry and, for the first time, threatening its global dominance.
Changes in Google's business can be traced to the impact of the growing adoption of artificial intelligence-powered technologies, led by the immensely popular assistant ChatGPT. The release of OpenAI’s software has impacted several digital industries, particularly the global online search market. Although Google referred to itself as an "AI-first company" already in 2016, it has only recently regained a leading position in the AI race with the release of its revamped assistant, Gemini. The shift has also affected Google’s parent company Alphabet, which is now fiercely focusing its efforts on machine learning and AI investments.

While Google Sites advertising earnings amounted to 234.23 billion U.S. dollars, the annual advertising revenue of Google network websites decreased from the previous year, reaching 30.36 billion U.S. dollars.
