Welfare in Italy

The Italian public expenditure on social benefits is the highest among all OECD countries. Overall, the total social expenditure represents some of the highest among the OECD countries. Italy has a welfare systems that cover a wide range of needs. In this report, data on key aspects of the Italian welfare system is presented, such as pensions, employment and unemployment benefits, social housing, and basic income for the low-wage population. In addition, this report includes data on corporate welfare as well as on measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
