ecommerceDB.com Trend Report
Before the advent of eCommerce, it was virtually impossible to have any significant retail revenue that was not tied to a physical location. The landscape has shifted dramatically in the last decade. Almost all shopping days are now under the control of large eCommerce companies that have capitalized on the internet's rapid global penetration.
Even though the U.S. and Europe spearheaded these shopping festivals by launching big-ticket events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, China has unquestionably and by a long shot emerged as the global market leader.

With a GMV of US$85.4 billion in 2021, Alibaba's Singles' Day event is the most important shopping day in the East and the single largest worldwide. Its revenues regularly exceed the combined sales of Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, the most important shopping days in the Western world.
Other prominent online shopping days include JD.com’s 618 Shopping Festival, Amazon’s Prime Day, Flipkart’s Big Billion Days, Mexico’s El Buen Fin, Amazon’s Great Indian Festival, Alibaba’s Double 12, eBay's Green Monday, and the online shopping events held in celebration of Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas/New Year.
Imported goods have grown in popularity in global online shopping festivals over the years. This is especially true in China, where customers are increasingly willing to pay a premium for high-quality imported goods.
In addition, the shift to smartphones has been having a direct impact on holiday shopping habits. Mobile commerce now dominates the global holiday shopping season, as orders and visits to eCommerce sites are carried out more on phones in comparison to other devices. Furthermore, social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube are increasingly influencing holiday shopping.
