Benelux financial KPI benchmark

Statista overview report on financial KPIs in the Benelux

Benelux financial KPI benchmark

With an extensive financial benchmark analysis, this report provides a deep insight into the Benelux economy. The annual reports of over 130 listed Benelux companies in ten different sectors were examined by analyzing internationally accepted operating KPIs, solvency and activity ratios, as well as profitability.

The following service sectors are covered:

  • Consumer services
  • Industrial services
  • Retail trade
  • Technology services

Additionally, six manufacturing sectors are analyzed throughout the report:
  • Consumer durables
  • Consumer non-durables
  • Electronic technologies
  • Non-energy minerals
  • Process industries
  • Producer manufacturing

Not only does the report give an overview of the state of these sectors, but it also highlights individual companies listed in Benelux to help better understand sector differences and key learnings.

First, based on the data provided in the financial statements of the companies, revenue, expenses, and KPIs reflecting the efficiency of companies, such as revenue per employee, are examined.

Afterward, the balance sheets are analyzed, which reflect the ability of a company to pay its short-term and long-term obligation.

Finally, for each sector, the profitability and its development over the last five years are analyzed as well as the valuation of companies from the different sectors which reveals future earning expectations.

The complex findings of this study are explained in detail which help answer questions such as how the relatively small countries of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg manage to remain among the richest countries of the world.

Table of contents

Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands represent a strong and competitive economic environment. As in most developed economies, the service sectors generate the most GDP in these countries. However, great differences can be discovered between the various service sectors. For example, the young and highly profitable consumer services sector is currently growing at a fast rate, while the more mature industrial services sector is characterized by slow growth. Additionally, the high price-to-earnings ratio shows that investors see particularly great potential in the technology services sector.

On the other hand, several manufacturing companies listed in the Benelux countries, especially within the consumer non-durables sector, are international industry leaders, such as Unilever, AB InBev, or Heineken, which once again shows that this economic environment allows great growth.
