Top 100 companies: Cryptocurrency

Bitcoin might be the headline cryptocurrency for many, but the market for digital currencies relying on blockchain technology is much bigger than that. Take, for instance, Ether: Initially released in 2015, the cryptocurrency is based off the open-source Ethereum blockchain – currently the more commonly used name for the coin – has become one of several virtual currencies with the most transactions on the ledger by 2021. In February 2023, there were nearly 9,000 cryptocurrencies. However, it is believed that the top 20 cryptocurrencies make up nearly 90% of the total market.
