OSTP PFAS Report

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Report

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large class of thousands of synthetic chemicals that contain carbon-fluorine bonds, which are among the strongest chemical bonds in organic chemistry. The report was produced by the United States the PFAS Science Team to identify federally-funded PFAS research and development, address scientific and technological challenges, identify cost-effective alternatives to PFAS, methods for removal of PFAS from the environment, and methods to safely destroy or degrade PFAS. The report provides an overview of research on PFAS in areas such as removal and destruction, safer alternatives, sources and pathways of exposure, and toxicity.
