Enhancing resilience of food systems in the Arab states
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN), in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO), presents the state of food security in the Near Eastern and North African region as of 2020. Despite the significant improvements of the last decades, the region is still far from attaining the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of fighting hunger and malnutrition, and the situation is exacerbated in countries under conflicts. Most food policies adopted by the governments of the region have contributed to worsening the state of food insecurity. Thus, greater involvement of the national authorities is needed to address the issues of hunger, malnutrition, and obesity among society.
