Market study on the top 1,000 B2C online stores in terms of revenue and on selected marketplaces
“E-Commerce-Markt Deutschland 2021” (E-Commerce-Market Germany 2021), the 13th edition of our joint study with EHI Retail Institute, lists the 1,000 biggest German online stores and hybrid marketplaces selling physical goods (with a B2C focus), based on their 2020 online revenues. For the first time, the study also includes selected marketplaces, sorted by their 2020 gross merchandise volume (GMV) in Germany. This report is ideal for securing new partners as well as for conducting competitor and market analyses.
Note: The report is only available in German.
Content
The study examines the German B2C eCommerce market from the supply perspective, with a detailed analysis of the 1,000 biggest online stores and hybrid marketplaces based on their 2020 revenue in Germany as well as of selected marketplaces based on their 2020 gross merchandise volume (GMV) in Germany. Services and usage rights (e.g., cell phone contracts) as well as stores which only sell digital goods (e.g., Google Play) are not considered here.
The ranking is based on a detailed analysis of more than 1,000 German online stores, hybrid marketplaces, and “pure” marketplaces, which were first surveyed online about their revenues, among other things. This data base was expanded by a wide range of secondary data from professional databases (e.g., EHI, Bundesanzeiger, Statista). Based on all the data obtained, eCommerce revenue drivers were identified, and the extent of their influence was quantified by performing a regression analysis. Missing revenue data could thus be approximated then.
Scope
The study consists of two professionally edited documents: a comprehensive PDF document and an Excel file including 1,000 data sets on online stores and hybrid marketplaces, data sets on selected marketplaces, as well as about 120 columns.
The PDF document contains a detailed analysis of the data with diagrams and tables regarding the most important results.
The Excel file includes all examined characteristics of Germany’s top 1,000 online stores and hybrid marketplaces sorted by revenue as well as selected marketplaces sorted by their gross merchandise volume (GMV). The table is easy to work with; thanks to filters, the data can be conveniently analyzed. The following aspects are included:
