Shell's number of oil spills and discharges 2007-2024

Shell reported 69 operational oil spills in addition to 84 sabotage spills in 2024. The number of operational spills caused by Shell has declined over the years, despite fluctuations. The company indicates that sabotage spills since 2019 were almost exclusively linked to its operations in Nigeria. Taking into account operational activity and sabotage, the volume of spills increased to 3,130 metric tons in 2024.
