During the survey period, hotels were the lodging of choice for the majority of Japanese. In contrast, only 1.7 percent of respondents planning a domestic trip during Golden Week intended to stay at vacation rentals.

The initial survey asked 20,000 respondents whether they intended to travel for one day or more during Golden Week. Out of the positive answers, 2,060 respondents were chosen to continue the survey.
Golden Week refers to a week surrounding multiple national holidays starting at the end of April. According to the source, the target period of the survey starts April 25 and ends May 5, 2019.
