After surveying Italian E-commerce companies on their strategy to increase business value in 2019, Casaleggio Associati revelead that 30 percent of the responding companies adopted measures to improve their brand reputation and positioning. Investing in technological innovation and digitalization was also a main focus for Italian e-commerce companies involved in business expansion. By contrast, only 13 percent of firms focused on distribution and international presence.
E-commerce in Italy
The e-commerce turnover in Italy increased steadily in the last years, reaching approximately 41.5 billion euros in 2018. When looking at the most popular categories, Italian e-commerce users seem to prefer to shop online for products and services related to leisure activities and tourism.
With the share of population using internet in Italy increasing steadily, there is more and more potential for companies active in the sector. For this reason, many e-commerce companies in Italy are planning to invest in order to develop and improve their online presence and to make sure they can attract an increasing number of customers.
E-commerce: unstoppable growth?
With more and more people being able to access the internet and to take advantage of the web’s unlimited possibilities, e-commerce is growing fast and forecasts show a bright future for companies operating in the sector. According to Statista’s Digital Market Outlook, retail e-commerce revenue in Europe is expected to grow steadily in the following years. Also, a more in-dept look shows that all product categories have a great potential, with fashion, and media and electronics being the leading e-commerce segments in Europe. E-commerce users are also expected to grow and so is the average spending per user.
