In 2017, about a third of cars circulating in Florence belonged to the Euro 4 class, whereas a quarter complied with Euro 5 standards. While 18 percent of cars met the Euro 6 requirements, seven percent of the cars circulating in Florence were not subject to any emission limits.

*The European emission standards define emission limits for vehicles. The most stringent one, the Euro 6 standards, were introduced for light vehicles in September 2014. Since 2015, all newly introduced models in Europe had to comply with them. By contrast, Euro 0 vehicles are not subject to any emission requirements and are the most polluting category.
