Dell operating profit 2016-2024
In the company’s 2024 fiscal year, Dell had an operating profit of 5.21 billion U.S. dollars. This represented a fifth year in a row where the company did not post an operating loss, citing increases in net revenue and operating income for the Client Solutions Group (CSG) as key reasons for this rise.
Client Solutions Group
The Client Solutions Group (CSG) includes branded hardware such as personal computers (PCs). PCs come in several varieties, including stationary products like workstations and desktops, as well as portable products like laptops, notebooks, and tablets. Dell, Lenovo, and Hewlett Packard (HP) are among the leading PC vendors globally, with Apple and several other vendors occupying smaller market shares.
Dell’s business strategy
Dell has shifted part of its attention to cloud service and storage solutions, moving away from mainly manufacturing computer hardware to providing software and service solutions. A key part of this involved the 67 billion U.S. dollar acquisition of EMC Corporation in 2016, who at the time was a dominant player in the storage market. The deal allowed Dell to expand its technology portfolio, enabling them to have greater involvement in key areas including hybrid cloud, converged systems, and platform-as-a-service (PaaS).
