Denmark is world known for being a large wind power producer, therefore the country has a large proportion of wind power in their electricity generation. The largest volume of wind power comes from wind turbines at land, although the production from offshore wind turbines has grown rapidly. The number of wind power turbines at land is almost ten times as many as the number of offshore turbines.

How much of Denmark is powered by wind?

   Denmark is a windy country and made well use of this. Indeed, in 2022, more than half of the country’s electricity consumption came from wind power. The share of power covered by wind power in 2022 was the highest share during the whole period from 2009 to 2022. In addition, in 2022, the production rose by more than 18 percent compared to the previous year.

Monthly wind power production

   According to the monthly wind production in 2021, the windiest months in Denmark were October and December. In October, around 1.7 terawatt-hours of wind energy was produced, and around 1.8 terawatt-hours in December. On the other hand, the lowest production of wind power in 2021 was in June, when the production was below one terawatt-hour.
