Germany's energy industry produced 205 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2023, making it the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the country that year. Nevertheless, the energy industry cut emissions by 56 percent between 1990 and 2023. In comparison, German transportation emissions fell by just 11 percent during the same period.
