In 2023, energy produced from sugar cane and its products accounted for 16.8 percent of the domestic energy supply in Brazil, up from 15.4 percent a year earlier. That was the lowest figure recorded since 2012. Sugar cane is the main raw material used for ethanol fuel production in the country. In addition, the crop's bagasse is also used as an energy source.
