* The source conducted its research based on analysis of responses from non-Hispanic white Americans to the following questions from the 2016 American National Election Survey:
Respondents were asked how important their race was to their identity on a five-point scale, with responses ranging from "not at all important" to "extremely important."
Respondents were also asked the following question (also on a five-point scale) as a measure of their feelings of white solidarity: "How important is it that whites work together to change laws that are unfair to whites?"
Finally, respondents were asked about how much discrimination whites face in the United States, also ranked on a five-point scale, ranging from "none at all" to "a great deal."
