Number of chocolate Santas produced in Germany 2014-2024
164 million chocolate Santas were produced for the holiday season in Germany in 2024. The amount has changed little during the time period specified. Chocolate Santas are a popular Christmas treat and gift in Germany. They are also still sold in January, after the Christmas holidays, often at a discount.
Sweet tooth
If chocolate Santas are a staple of Christmas holidays in the country, what about chocolate consumption in general? Does the cheer extend to other seasons? Germans have a sweet tooth, with consumers indulging regularly ahead of the UK and France as of 2020/2021. Milka, Lindt and the national source of pride Ritter Sport were the most popular chocolate brands among consumers, also leading in terms of brand awareness.
Christmas spending
Revenue from retail sales during Christmas in Germany have only been growing in recent years, amounting to around 120.3 billion euros in 2022. Shoppers were keen, and retailers both online and off even more so. The same year, Germans spent around 520 euros per capita on Christmas gifts.
