This statistic depicts the volume of plastic waste collected in Europe from 2006 to 2016, by type of treatment. Over the period of consideration, the use of landfills decreased, while the recovery rate of waste constantly grew. As of 2016, the volume of plastics accumulated in landfill amounted to 7.4 million tons, whereas 19.7 million tons of plastic waste were recovered and 11.3 million tons were were transformed into energy.
