Average monthly hours of sunshine Germany 2023-2024
In October 2024, Germany experienced an overall average of 100 sunshine hours, which was a noticeable decrease compared to the previous month, indicating the beginning of fall and winter. Sunniest states
When looking at federal states in Germany in 2024, the sunniest states in summer were Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony. Confirming popular opinion, Hamburg was indeed the state with less sunshine hours in recent years, though not the least sunny compared to others further down the list. In winter, based on recent figures, Germany counted 392 sunshine hours. These figures may change more in the coming years due to the effects of climate change on the weather all over the country.
National weather service
The German National Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst or DWD) monitors the weather in Germany. The service is a federal authority providing information for the population and conducting scientific research. It is also responsible for issuing official warnings when weather conditions are predicted to be threatening.
