According to a survey from 2021, about half of Italian high school graduates practiced sports outside of school. Male students tended to practice for more hours compared to female students. Indeed, 16 percent of males and eight percent of females trained for more than 10 hours a week.

Data were acquired in two ways: 1. students took part to a survey answering a questionnaire, 2. school documents were consulted in order to gain information about gender, age, grades, citizenship, school credit, and type of diploma.
