This statistic shows the distribution of Italian online newspapers and weeklies in 2017 and 2019, by payment model. According to the study, the majority of online newspapers (about 60 percent) provided free access to all their articles. In 2017, one in four newspapers, by contrast, had adopted a freemium model. Two years later, this kind of subscription held 30 percent of online newspapers and weeklies.
