Main causes of death in Spain in 2021

In 2021, around 450,700 people died in Spain due to several diseases. COVID-19 was the most common cause of death that year, with over 39,400 cases. Among circulatory diseases, coronary artery diseases ranked first in number of deaths with approximately 28,800 cases, which represented a slight decrease compared to the previous year. It was followed by cerebrovascular diseases. As of May 2023, over 120,000 people in Spain had died due to COVID-19.
