Leading ports in Indonesia
Across the entire Indonesian port network in 2022, 288 served as pioneer ports and 60 as commercial ports. The efficiency of shipping operations has improved slightly in recent years, with ships spending an average of 1.26 days in the country's ports in 2022. Among the main port hubs nationwide, Tanjung Priok, located in Jakarta, recorded a total unloading of 16 million metric tons of domestic cargo in 2023. It plays a key role in West Java's exports and handles a significant share of the country's imports. In addition, Tanjung Perak, located in Surabaya, represents a major maritime passenger transport hub, with around 732 million domestic passenger departures in 2023.
PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), better known as Pelindo, is an essential part of Indonesia's maritime infrastructure. As a state-owned entity, it manages a comprehensive network of port services throughout the archipelago. In 2022, Pelindo recorded a growing operating revenue of 29.7 trillion Indonesian rupiah. Across the 71 ports operated by the group, considerable ship traffic was recorded, reaching around 1.2 billion tons. The government's strategic support for Pelindo underlines its essential role in promoting national connectivity and strengthening the logistics ecosystem. This is in line with Indonesia's Vision 2045, in which the construction of strategic ports will complement these efforts, to strengthen the nation's maritime capabilities, both locally and internationally.
