Due to the surge in Omicron cases, the 2022 edition of the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was postponed from February to April of that year. While street parades were completely canceled, parades at the Sambódromo da Marquês de Sapucaí did take place. In total, around 229 thousand people attended those events.
