By 2050, the wine growing in Italy will be affected by the climate change. According to the study, Italy could lose between 2.9 and 3.3 percent of its suitable wine growing area by 2050, depending on the forecast scenario. In terms of surface, this would correspond to 15.18 to 17.22 hectares of vineyards area. Estimates for 2080 reported even higher values. By 2080, up to 175 hectares of vineyards area could be lost due to climate change.
Rising temperatures in Italy
Historical data suggested that average and maximum temperatures grew significantly across Italy. The maximum temperatures recorded in major Italian cities between 2011 and 2018 reported higher values than between 1971 and 1980. To make an example, in Genoa, city in Northern Italy, the maximum temperature registered between 1971 and 1980 35.4, whereas it reached 37.3 degrees Celsius between 2011 and 2018.
Common perceptions
Aside from scientific evidence, individuals seemed very much aware of the environmental global warming. In 2020, the increase of global temperatures was perceived as a very likely event by 76 percent of Italians, a poll revealed.

Had CM3 model was developed by Met Office Hadley Centre for Climate Change and predicts faster warming than the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 2007a) model. CSIRO model was developed by Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization points rather towards a slightly slower warming than the IPCC model.
