Based on the presented figures from 2018, the most precipitous months (with the highest number of days including precipitation) in Berlin were January, June and December. In fact, December topped the ranking with 11 days recorded.
For a rainy day
Berlin is not the German city with the highest precipitation amounts. When comparing precipitation recorded per square meter, three cities take the lead, two of them located in Bavaria. These cities are Oberstdorf, known for its hiking and skiing, the Bavarian state capital Munich and Saarbrücken, state capital of Saarland and located near the French border. Hamburg, which the German population generally considers to be a very rainy state, actually ranks somewhere in the middle, while Berlin is to be found lower down. Bavaria and Saarland are also ranked as the German states with the most precipitation per square meter.
Monitoring the weather
German weather is not only a popular conversation topic, but it is also nationally monitored by the German National Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst or DWD). The Service is a recognized federal authority, as well as being a research organization. It’s also the one issuing official warnings in the country when weather conditions are expected to be dangerous for the public, for example in cases of an approaching storm, heavy rainfalls or hurricane winds.
