The market share of generic drugs in Brazil has shown an overall increasing trend in recent years. While in 2016 around 12.73 percent of the total sales value of pharmaceutical products acquired through pharmacies in the South American country was attributed to generic drugs, that share increased by approximately 1.66 percentage points by 2022. As of 2021, the market value of the Brazilian pharmaceutical industry was estimated at nearly 23 billion U.S. dollars.
