Deals valued at over one billion U.S. dollars, otherwise known as mega-deals, have increased in general over the time period displayed, amounting to approximately 1.5 trillion U.S dollars in 2023. 2018 was named by some as the year of the mega-deal due to transactions over one billion U.S. dollars accounting for nearly two thirds of the total years deal value. This was a very different case than was seen historically where mega-deals on average accounted for 40 percent of total deal value between 1985 and 2020.
