The plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) version of the Mitsubishi Outlander was the electric vehicle most commonly traveling on roads in the United Kingdom in 2020: 51,723 units were registered in the region. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is a compact crossover SUV and was introduced in 2013 as part of the model’s third generation launch. The Japanese automobile manufacturer sold around 9,000 passenger cars in the UK in 2020.

Most common electric vehicles in Europe

The Mitsubishi Outlander was ranked third in terms of cumulative electric vehicle registrations in the European Union. By December 2020, the fleet size of the PHEV model exceeded 100,000 units. The ranking was led by Renault's Zoe, which became available for retail customers a couple months prior to the Outlander PHEV. More than 235,000 units of the Zoe plug-in electric car were registered in the EU as of 2020.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) had a market share of almost seven percent in the United Kingdom in 2020. Roughly 108,000 such passenger cars were sold, up from 38,000 the previous year. Battery electric vehicles were more popular than plug-in hybrid electric vehicles in 2020.
