The number of dogs rescued in Spain decreased steadily over the period of time under consideration, ranging from 108,300 dogs in 2013 down to 104,700 in 2018. In 2019, however, the number of stray dogs rescued rose sharply, with figures amounting to over 1831,00 that year. In 2023, there were 170,700 stray dogs rescued.
