In 2020, the share of passengers traveling through a carbon accredited airport in Europe reduced to 69.6 percent, an increase of 5.6 percent from the previous year. While the number of accredited airports kept increasing, the new entrants were mostly small, accounting for only a minor share of European traffic. The Airport Carbon Accreditation program was introduced in 2009 to recognize airports' efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.
