As of March 2024, about 2.9 million people in urban areas of West Java lived below the poverty line, more than any province. The poverty line is the minimum amount of income needed for day to day necessities. The high numbers for Java is attributed to it being the most populous island of Indonesia, with more than 150 million inhabitants.
