Average purchasing power in Poland 2018-2024
Poland’s average per capita purchasing power amounted to over 12,500 euros, which is 33 percent less than the European average in 2024. In that year, the highest per person purchasing power was in Warsaw, with nearly 18,800 euros.
Retail market overview
In the first quarter of 2023, the Warsaw agglomeration was the largest retail market in Poland. It offered a total retail space area amounting to 2.4 million square meters of Gross Leasable Area. At the same time, medium-sized cities had the most significant shopping center space per 1,000 inhabitants in its agglomeration, with a density rate of 844 square meters. The highest vacancy rate of retail space in Poland was recorded in Poznań, amounting to 4.4 percent.
Retail sales
In 2023, retail sales at current prices in Poland, achieved by commercial and non-commercial enterprises, amounted to more than 1.26 trillion zloty and was six percent higher than in the previous year. Discount stores are becoming increasingly popular in Poland. The leader among them is Biedronka. In the first months of 2022, Biedronka accounted for 64.2 percent of discount store visits. It was followed by Lidl.
