This statistic shows the author-related income share of individual income among authors in the United States in 2013 and 2017, sorted by type. The findings show that literary authors suffered the most, with 25 percent of their 2017 income being derived from their work as an author compared to 29 percent in 2013. The only authors who saw an increase were those who were self-published only, with growth of one percent in author-related income over the four year period.
