In 2018, almost sixty percent of Americans stated they were using ride-hailing services: 46 percent of respondents said rarely, while 12 percent of respondents said once a week or more often.
Who are the regular users?
According to the survey, the number of frequent ride-hailing app customers in the United States has actually halved: only one in eight people were regular users. In light of falling frequency levels, leading operators need to undertake actions to increase demand, i.e. by providing better service or expanding their target group. In the United States, services are often restricted to urban areas, and younger people are more likely to be customers. Men are slightly more receptive to ride-hailing than women. One of the reasons might be that women feel less safe than men while using such services.
What is ride-hailing?
Ride-hailing is often cited as one of the most important segments of the Mobility-as-a-Service market. Users are able to track and locate potential drivers on mobile apps and request to be picked up. Some companies also include car-pooling: other passengers may be picked up in order to share similar routes, and hence lower costs per user.
